Top Assess Your Community's Readiness for an SS/HS Grant

Promoting safe and healthy environments in which America’s children can learn and develop is the overarching goal of the SS/HS Initiative. Violence and substance abuse in schools compromise the educational climate and endanger students and teachers.

Therefore, the U.S. Departments of Education, Health and Human Services and Justice are collaborating to ensure that federal funding is channeled to schools and communities that can work together to provide comprehensive educational, mental health, social, law enforcement and juvenile justice system services that promote healthy child development and safe, disciplined, drug-free school environments.

Take this interactive assessment to find out if your community is ready to apply for a SS/HS grant. By taking this assessment, you will also learn more about the key factors of a successful SS/HS initiative.

Disclaimer: This assessment tool is intended for informational purposes only. The information in this tool is based on the FY2007 SS/HS grant. The FY 2008 application is scheduled for release on January 24, 2008. Until the FY 2008 application is available we encourage interested applicants to review the FY 2007 application as the eligibility, requirements, absolute priority, and selection criteria will not change. It will help you determine if your district is ready to submit a SS/HS grant application. It will in no way guarantee your application will be successful. Grant applications are evaluated based on the applicant’s response to the selection criteria. For a complete list of the selection criteria and ratings, please review the current grant application.
